Folsom VRF HVAC Systems
Variable flow refrigerant (VRF) systems have a single outdoor condenser unit and multiple fan coil units. Each zone or service area gets its own indoor fan coil and thermostat. This way, residents can adjust the temperatures in their immediate areas to suit their preferences. The zoned heating and cooling supplied by VRF HVAC systems make it unnecessary to waste energy on empty floors or rooms. This is but one of many reasons VRF systems have a reputation for superior efficiency.
During simultaneous heating and cooling, VRF systems provide cooling to one area and heat to another. They also recover the heat extracted during cooling and funnel it to rooms that require it. This ongoing energy recovery leads to lower carbon footprints and manageable energy bills.
Much like their name implies, VRF HVAC systems constantly vary the amount of refrigerant sent to each fan coil unit. Every fan coil only receives the refrigerant it needs to create or maintain residents’ preferred temperatures. VRF systems adjust in refrigerant flow rather than cycling off and on for less startup energy use.
VRF HVAC system installation is a good choice for many residential properties, including:
- Multi-unit dwellings
- Historic homes
- Older homes that lack ducting
- Homes with recent additions
You can even install a VRF system in your home if you already have central HVAC. These systems can effectively resolve hot and cold spots. They can also service garden rooms, attached garages, in-law units, and other remote, non-serviced, or underserved areas.
VRF HVAC installation is minimally invasive. As your VRF HVAC contractor, we’ll mount your unit’s compressor in your back or side yard. After dividing the building interior into service areas, we’ll mount fan coil units on upper wall areas or ceilings. Installers drill small holes in the exterior walls of individual zones to pass through refrigerant tubes and wiring. Sometimes, these holes are three inches in diameter or less, and installers seal them before leaving.
VRF systems are also highly scalable. As your property and needs change, you can add or remove fan coil units.
With no ductwork required, VRF system installation can protect and improve your indoor air quality. Distributed air won’t pass through dusty networks of air ducts and pick up allergens along the way. You can also avoid duct-related energy waste and the major structural modifications that post-construction ductwork retrofitting often entails.
